Chapter 01
Title Only, or title with registration
Arizona requires a vehicle to be transferred together with its registration, unless the vehicle cannot be driven. If your car runs and you can bring it, plan on walking out with both a new title and current plates, not one or the other.
If the vehicle genuinely cannot be driven, a Title Only is the exception, not the default. It needs either a Level 1 Title Only inspection or a failed emissions test on file. Bring proof of one or the other, or we will need to arrange it before the title can move.

Titles are electronic now, not paper
Arizona is phasing out paper titles. Unless you ask for one, the title on file after a transfer is electronic, held with the state rather than mailed to your address.
If you want the physical document, a paper title can still be requested. It is mailed to you after processing, so ask for it at the counter rather than assuming one will show up on its own.

Every kind of title this counter processes
Title transfers, vehicle and trailer transfers, lost plates and registration, lien filing, registration renewals and specialty plates all run through the same counter.
So do the harder cases: bonded and abandoned titles, restored salvage titles, handicap placards, motor vehicle records and mailing services. If it involves a title, we have almost certainly filed one like it before.
What to bring, and what happens after
Bring the signed title, and have it notarised first if the document calls for it. If a lien is being released, bring that paperwork too, since a title with an open lien on file will not clear.
All four Tucson offices handle title transfers, not just one. Once the documents check out, the transfer is filed from the counter while you wait, and your title, registration and plates go with you unless you have asked for a mailed paper title instead.
