Chapter 01
Two offices, not four
Arizona Auto License runs four offices in Tucson, but licence, ID and road test work happens at only two of them: Prince Rd and Irvington Rd. If you're renewing plates, filing a title or getting something notarised, any of the four offices handles it. If you need a driver licence, a photo ID or a road test, it has to be one of these two.
Call ahead if you're not sure which counter your situation belongs at. We'll tell you straight whether it's licence-and-ID work or title-and-registration work before you drive over.

Getting your first Arizona licence or ID
A First Time AZ ID or driver licence means the written test and the road test both, not one or the other. Plan on both when you come in.
This is one of the two Prince Rd and Irvington Rd services. Walk in to start the paperwork and the written portion; the road test itself needs an appointment, covered below.
Chapter 03
The Travel ID and licence upgrade
A Travel ID or Travel Driver License upgrade is for domestic travel. It is not a border-crossing document, and it will not work as one.
The posted fee for a Travel Driver License is $50 flat, and original documents are required at the time you apply. Issued to someone under 65, it's valid for eight years. Issued to someone 65 or older, it's valid for five.
Updating what's already on file
An address, photo, name or sex change on a licence or ID needs certified documents, not photocopies. A marriage certificate, a divorce decree, a court order or an amended birth certificate are what the state accepts, depending on what's changing.
Bring the certified original, not a copy. Anything less and the update can't be filed the same day.
The road test itself
Road tests run by appointment, not walk-in, and only at Prince Rd and Irvington Rd. Bring your own vehicle, plus proof of insurance and proof of registration. The office does not provide a car.
The test starts with parallel parking. If you're here for a First Time AZ ID or DL, or any licence that requires the road portion, expect that to be the first thing you're asked to do.
A retest costs $25 total, with no separate state fee on top of it.
Plates, renewals and replacements
Disability plates, replacement plates and temporary tags run through the counter too, along with renewals on registrations that have already lapsed. None of this carries the Prince Rd or Irvington Rd restriction. It runs at all four Tucson offices.
Duplicate title processing, restoring a salvage title and restoring a suspended registration are the same: paperwork our counter staff has filed before, available wherever you walk in.
